Our Learning Math:  In math this week we continued to learn about subtraction. We are getting better at using a number line to subtract numbers within 20. It is hard to remember to jump the other direction when we are subtracting, after we learn to hop to the bigger numbers when adding, but we are getting so much better! Writing:  This week in writing we finally finished writing our twisted fairy tale stories! We have been rewriting the classic fairy tale of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have really been pushing ourselves to write 3 or 4 sentences a day and we are so proud of ourselves for how much we have grown in our writing! Science:  In science we have been continuing to learn about energy. This week we learned about how things move on a path. We started creating some pathway art using straight, zigzag, and wavy/curvy lines (pathways).  Social Studies:  We are learning about what life was like in Calgary 100-150 years in the past.    Our Learning HAPPY YEAP YEAR! We were SO excited this week to welcome our new student teacher Mr. Orr! He will be with us until April 26th and is really looking forward to joining our classroom community.  Math:  In math this week Mr. Orr started teaching us about subtraction. We learned that subtracting means taking away or getting smaller. First we used blocks to help us solve subtraction questions and then we learned how to use a number line to solve subtraction questions.  Science:  In science this week we have started to investigate energy and forces. We learned that a force is something that helps something that is non-living move. In grade 1 we learn about two types of forces, pushes and pulls. We also learned that living things can move on their own. Animals can move in all sorts of ways such as hopping, swimming, walking, crawling, flying, etc.    Swimming:   A big chunk of our days this week have been taken up with swimming....
