Our Learning
HAPPY YEAP YEAR!
We were SO excited this week to welcome our new student teacher Mr. Orr! He will be with us until April 26th and is really looking forward to joining our classroom community.
Math: In math this week Mr. Orr started teaching us about subtraction. We learned that subtracting means taking away or getting smaller. First we used blocks to help us solve subtraction questions and then we learned how to use a number line to solve subtraction questions.
Science: In science this week we have started to investigate energy and forces. We learned that a force is something that helps something that is non-living move. In grade 1 we learn about two types of forces, pushes and pulls. We also learned that living things can move on their own. Animals can move in all sorts of ways such as hopping, swimming, walking, crawling, flying, etc.
Swimming: A big chunk of our days this week have been taken up with swimming. The students have been having SO much fun learning how to swim and be comfortable in the water. They have learned water and life jacket safety, how to float, how kick and move in the water, they even learned how to jump in the water safely! Every student has been so brave to try so many new things this week in swimming and it was so amazing to watch their confidence grow each day. Thank you to all the parents who came and supported in the lockers rooms! We could not have done it without you!
