Our Learning January 8th- January 12th
Our Learning
We were so excited to be back at school this week despite the cold temperatures!
Math: In math this week we reviewed adding to 10 using number lines, blocks, and counters to remind our brains of what we learned before the holiday break. Then we started trying to add numbers all the way up to 20! It is definitely harder adding bigger numbers, but it is also more exciting!
Writing: In writing this week we learned about writing letters. We learned that letters were one of the main ways people used to communicate over long distances before phones and technology were invented. We wrote letters to Miss. Tucker to tell her what we did over the break and then we got to write a letter to a friend in the class! We are still working hard on including spaces and periods in our sentences! We also learned about how to dress for the cold and wrote about what WE wear when we dress for the cold.
Science: In Science this week continued our investigation into matter. We reviewed that one of the properties of matter is that things have a measurable length and then learned about how things also have a measurable weight. We got to use a scale to measure things around the classroom including ourselves! On Thursday we learned that can act upon something to change it properties and effect its length or width. We did an experiment to see how many different ways we could change the length of a piece of paper to make it shorter.
Gym: In gym this week we got together with Mrs. Vanderwel's class to do some parachute activities in gym. We learned so many fun games including popcorn, sharks in the water, and categories!
