Our Learning Math:  In math this week we we continued to practice representing and counting numbers to 100. We spent all week practice representing numbers with ones and tens, with base ten blocks, and in expanded form. We are getting really confident with representing and identifying numbers. Writing:   This week in writing we continued to work on segmenting words into its sounds to be able to read and write words on our own. We are getting more confident at identifying beginning sounds and are continuing to work on hearing the middle and end sounds.  Science:  In science this week we introduced the concept of computer science and coding. We learned that computers have their own language called code and we can use coding to give computers instructions. When we give instructions in the right order we can complete a task or address a problem. We started off easy by coding a Halloween monster to do a dance.  Social:  In social studies we continued to d...

Our Learning October 16th- 19th

Our Learning Math:  In math this week we we continued to practice representing and counting numbers to 100. On Monday we built numbers using base 10 blocks and we are getting really good at it! We learned that numbers have different place value spots. The number in the tens place shows how many groups of 10 there are, and the number in the ones place shows how many ones cubes/ones units there are.  Literacy:  In writing this week we have been continuing to learn about how to write in a full sentence. We used pattern sentences (sentences where we are given the beginning and have to fill in the last word) to describe some local animals like white tailed jack rabbits, and squirrels. Then we even got to describe a halloween picture and try to challenge ourselves to write more than one sentence!  Science:  In science this week we furthered our exploration into the scientific method by conducting another experiment. In this experiment our question was "Wh...

Our Learning Math:  In math this week we started to learn our numbers all the way up to 100!!! We practiced counting by 1's and 10's and started by making our own 100 chart to help up to know what each number looks like. Our favourite thing in math this week was playing BINGO! It helped us to recognize what numerals all the way up to 100 looked like.                                                            Literacy:  In writing this week we learned about the difference between a letter, a word and a sentence. We learned that sentences include 3 very important things: an uppercase at the beginning, finger spaces, and end punctuation. We got to practice writing sentences for the first time and we wrote about Halloween animals like bats, and cats. We even did some research about them befo...

Our Learning Math:  In math this week we continued our investigation into how to represent numbers and applied our knowledge of base ten blocks to represent numbers to 20 (our teen numbers). First we built numbers with the actual blocks, and then we practiced counting base ten blocks that showed teen numbers. To end the week we did a fun math scavenger hunt (Count the room) around the room.  Writing:  This week in writing, with Thanksgiving approaching, we discussed what it means to be thankful. We read the story "The Grateful Book" and then brainstorm and wrote about things that we are grateful for in OUR lives. We also continue to work on our descriptive writing by drawing and describing pumpkin pie!  Science:  This week in science we wrapped up our learning about signs of fall. We learned about what animals do in the fall to get ready to survive the winter. We discovered that many animals either hibernate, migrate or adapt. We learned that animals like...
